A lil something I just heard up over on the Aficionado FB group. A lovely Balearic groove, now where’s that sun..?
New Cantoma track. Sounding dreamy. Sunshine music. Need.
A new Winter Mix just dropped over at TukTuk. Your man Neil Diablo on mix duty once again, and as ever sounding bang on form. Tracks included come courtesy of Harvey’s new ‘act’ Locosollus, ex Buzzcocks man (and fellow Manc’) Pete Shelley, and a bit of classic Italo from G.A.N.G. Head on over to TukTuk’s soundcloud for a full tracklisting and a download.
If you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you may not know that the Grecian Balearic outfit Keep Shelly in Athens are pretty big news. You may also not know that their Dusk 12” from last year sold out in approx’ 8 seconds, or something to that effect. Bragging rights for me then, as I just about managed to snaffle one up; and lovely it is too, both aurally and aesthetically.
Anyway, according to my sources (the interweb), they have a brand spanking new EP coming out in a month or so. Limited to 500, and out on Forest Family Records, I suggest you get your pre-order in now, or live to regret it later when it appears on t’bay for silly money.
Caroline Loeb is best known for her Balearic big hitter “C’est la ouate” - she also bore a slight resemblance to Boy George (see image).
“A Quoi Tu Penses?” is another track taken from her 1987 album. Full of saxophone and what I imagine to be her sex noises, it’s not quite as BIG as “Cést la oute”, but hits the (g) spot all the same.
Manchester friend and all round good egg Neil Diablo, has done a tip-top end of Summer Mixtape for “gentlemen’s bespoke outfitters of note, TukTuk”. It’s a deeply cosmic affair, featuring one of his own solo productions, ‘For Your Love’ (KAT EDIT).
You can preview the mix here, or alternatively, if you like what your hear, you can pick up one of the CD releases. Limited to a run of 100 CD’s, and housed in a “Casey Jones” striped fabric pocket with button fastening, you can pick one of these little beauties up from here, or here.
Plug over.
Big old Best Foot Forward weapon of choice here, got played a lot as it hit our perfect “songs you used to love & balearic loveliness” sweet spot.
It wasn’t until trying to find a high quality MP3 this week that the re-rub was care of Mr. Trentmoller. That would go some way to explaining the shit-hot level of production then - turn up loud and feel that sub-bass massage right through you …
BIG Ferox Records track from 1999. First heard this many moons ago on Soundcolors 4 (mixed, funnily enough, by Moonboots), and just had to hunt down a copy on 12”. Ferox are probably better known for their big hitters, like Russ Gabriel (label owner) and Ian O’Brien, but for me, the best Ferox release I own, is this one right here.
Balearic Techno? This is probably as close as it gets.
