    Halves - Growing & Glow

Saw these chaps and chapesses at Electric Picnic earlier this year. By chance, I stumbled on their performance in a drunken stupor, and was instantly taken in by the shed load of instruments they had on show. Thankfully, they knew how to use them, and by the end of the show I’d sobered up and managed to find out what they were called.

I picked up their debut LP a couple of weeks ago, and most excellent it is too. If you haven’t already, go buy their album here. It’s proper good.

Valentin Stip - Anytime Will Do

Sounding like the perfect soundtrack to a weirdy, foreign cartoon that’s up for many awards you’ve never heard of! Here’s Valentin Stip’s new release on Nicolas Jaar’s small label. You can hear the rest of the EP here, and thoroughly I recommend you do.

Born in France, Val grew up with classical piano training in New York City. He received formal lessons, studied in conservatories and had all the makings of a rising concerto performer. When he moved to Montreal in the fall of 2009, Val lost sight of the instrument that defined his adolescence. The regularity of the practice schedule that organized his life was fastidiously turned inside out. It was around this time that he began experimenting with electronic music.” via wordandsound

Another one from the BFF archive, this is a lovely slab of glitchtronica, taking one of Damon’s most heartfelt moments, layering it up step-by-step beautifully for the first 2 minutes, and then completely blissing it out for the remaining 3. Perfect for a balmy Sunday evening in London, or wherever you are.
